Visiting Rich and Kris
We got up and exited the hotel about 7AM. Much to our surprise it was snowing with a few inches on the ground and it was 10F. We found our way to a Micky's close by and got a quick bite before hitting I90W. The roads were very slippery and we saw a few cars off the road and an 18 wheeler laying on its side. Other than slowing us down a bit, it was no big deal, we drove out if it in about 100 miles.
As we made our way west the temperature continued to drop. It bottomed at 0F.
When we got within a few miles of Rich's house we looked for a car wash, the car was a block of ice and the adaptive cruise has shut down due to covered cameras. We pulled into a Quickie's and paid $15 for a car wash. When we pulled in it soaped us down and then said proceed to the exit. That was nice, now the car was coated in frozen soap. The guy in the store gave me back my $15 and we went down the road and found another car wash. It did the job, and the sensors in the car were happy again.
We got a bite to eat at a local Burrito place and made our way to Rich's, it was about 1:30PM. It was good to see him and Kris. Kris worked the night before and should have been sleeping but she was up to greet us.
Rich wanted to go to Menards to buy a small refrigerator for his basement so off we went and let the girls to hang at the house.
While at Menards, we also purchased a $10 Over the Air antenna, since Rich recently disconnected his cable and was looking to get the local channels.
On the way back Rich gave me a tour of Joliet, it is a bigger city than I realized, 150K people, about three times the size of Burlington, VT.
When we got back we carried the frig to the basement and hooked up the $10 antenna in the garage. The antenna worked, much to Rich's surprise, and Rich can watch a few channels in his garage now.
For dinner Rich bought us all Chinese, it was pretty darn good.
Rich's best friend, Mike, and his neighbor, Tony, came over for Poker a bit later and they took my $30 before I wisely went to bed.
Today we will make our way to the Minneapolis area to visit Tom and Lori.
